Did you know that a majority of the personal beauty products we use daily can be substituted with something mixed up with ingredients from your kitchen? Crazy to think that you can replace your face wash, creams and scrubs with something you can whip up in minutes, right?!
If you are not ready to replace all your products with natural alternatives, you can use these recipes when you run out and need a quick substitute!
I do urge you to take a look at the ingredients list on your beauty products, you will likely find a loooong list of things you probably can't pronounce or state where they came from, this is because they were made in a lab somewhere and are not natural and not good for your skin. Our skin is like a sponge and what we put on our body does end up in our blood stream. If you are conscious about what you put into your body when it comes to your food, the same should go for the beauty products you use as well. Do some research on what is in your favourite shampoo, makeup and creams. Also a great source is http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ to see how dangerous the products may be.
The following are some recipes for various scrubs and masks. Try one, try them all! I just hope you will realize how easy, inexpensive and fun it is to make your own products at home.
Honey and Baking Soda Scrub
Seems way too simple right? Pure and basic, honey moisturizes and cleanses naturally and baking soda helps to exfoliate!
2 Tbsp Honey
1-2 Tsp Baking Soda
Mix together and apply to dampened face and gently rub in circular motions. You can leave this on for a few minutes to act as a mask or rinse off immediately with warm water.
Coconut Oil with Brown Sugar and Honey
This is a great body scrub or you can use it on your face, but rub gently as the sugar can be course on the delicate skin on your face.
2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
1 Tsp Brown Sugar
1 Tbsp Honey
Mix together and apply to damp skin and rinse. Do not wash your skin afterwards as the coconut oil is a beautiful moisturizer that has many health benefits for your skin. Also makes a great scrub for your lips - be gentle!
Egg White Face Mask
Weird yes but very effective at tightening up pores and making your face silky smooth!
1 Egg white
Separate egg white and yolk (save yolk for cooking!) whisk up egg white lightly. Apply to face with fingers or clean makeup brush, covering face but not getting too close to your eyes. Let it sit for 10 minutes or until it is very tight and is difficult to smile! Rinse off with warm water then cold water to seal the pores.
Yogurt Face Mask
3-4 Tbsp Plain (unflavoured) Yogurt (fat content doesn't matter)
1 Tbsp honey (optional)
With your fingers or a clean makeup brush apply a thick layer of yogurt to a clean face and let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
Enjoy!
